Compensation scheme update 14 October – Talks on redundancy re-open

14 October 2010

The national executive committee (NEC) agreed on the 7 October that the latest offer on the civil service compensation scheme from the Cabinet Office was unacceptable and to propose further negotiations with the Minister, Francis Maude MP.

PCS, together with the POA, met with the Minister on 11 October. He agreed to a short period for further talks. We will use this opportunity to continue to seek an acceptable outcome for members.

The decision of the Prison Officers Association executive, who have agreed to reject the offer as it stands, and called for those talks to include all the civil service unions, including PCS, is a positive one.

We note however that the Government is continuing to progress a Bill through Parliament which would give the government the right to unilaterally impose worse terms and remove accrued rights from civil servants.
