FBU Ballot begins over LFEPA sacking threat

FBU’s general secretary, Matt Wrack , wrote last week to LFEPA (London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority) bosses, notifying them that the union will ballot its entire London membership for industrial action in the event that the commissioner’s threat to terminate contracts was not withdrawn by 1700 hours today (20 August).

In the light of the failure of the Fire Authority to withdraw the threat of sacking all firefighters a ballot for industrial action short of a strike will now commence on 27 August. Ballot forms will be sent to all members’ home addresses.

Contingent upon how things develop in the coming days and weeks, the union will escalate the action by conducting a further ballot of members for strike action at the appropriate time.”

This decision was taken by a joint meeting of the union’s London regional committee and around 80 branch reps, which took place today in central London .
